A gift in your will, also called a legacy or bequest, is the property or money you leave to someone or a charity after you die. Your estate is everything you own at the time of your death. This type of giving allows you to support causes you care about even after your lifetime.
-
If you do not have a Will, or would like to update your Will, including a charity bequest is simple. There are a number of ways that you can leave a gift to Dayspring in your Will:
Residuary bequest: A gift of whatever remains in your estate after all other specific gifts, debts, and expenses have been paid.
Percentage bequest: a percentage of your estate, or of the residual of your estate, means no matter the value of your final estate, the proportion you intended for Dayspring will remain the same
Pecuniary bequest: A specific sum of money to be gifted to Dayspring.
Specific bequest: A particular item or asset, such as property, shares, or valuable items.
We recommend seeking legal advice to ensure your will best reflects your wishes and circumstances, so that you can clearly state the type and amount of your legacy gift. Please also let us know about your intended gift so we can thank you and keep you informed about our work.

Many mothers face significant mental health challenges during pregnancy and after childbirth, including depression, anxiety, trauma, and other mood disorders. These conditions are often underdiagnosed and untreated due to stigma, lack of access to care, and systemic barriers. The emotional toll of motherhood, combined with physical recovery and social pressures, can lead to long-term health issues, strained relationships, and reduced quality of life.
Tamariki of mothers experiencing mental health difficulties are at increased risk of developmental delays, emotional and behavioural problems, and insecure attachment. Maternal mental health directly influences a child’s ability to thrive socially, cognitively, and emotionally. Without early support, these challenges can persist into adolescence and adulthood, affecting education, relationships, and overall wellbeing.
Dayspring Trust delivers vital community-based programmes and services that include advocacy, education, and support networks for wāhine and their tamariki. Through counselling, maternal mental health support workers, parenting programmes, and support groups, Dayspring empowers mothers to navigate challenges, build resilience, and foster nurturing environments for their tamariki.
Our work at Dayspring Trust can help break the cycle of stigma surrounding mental health.
In essence, a legacy gift to Dayspring is an investment in the future. It ensures that wāhine are empowered and supported, leading to flourishing tamariki.
